This June, 20 years since the Rio Earth Summit of 1992, government representatives from around the world will meet in Rio again, for the Rio+20 Summit.
This is a vital time for MPs to recommit to action to tackle climate change, and across the UK, local communities are running Rio Connection events, to call for ambition from our representatives at Rio (www.rioconnection.org).
As part of this national movement, Stop Climate Chaos (which QPSW is a member of) is calling on UK politicians to sign the ‘Rio-UK Declaration’: a pledge of support for action to create the green and fair economy
that we all need. This is a brilliant opportunity to create positive news about sustainable development. We all know that huge numbers of MPs care about climate change, but recently they’ve been too quiet, whilst unsupportive MPs have shouted louder. Now it’s our turn to show how many of us – and our MPs – care. It’s essential that we put pressure on our politicians to act for a
green and fair future. Please call on your MP to sign the declaration, and share it with your friends.
If you want to get more involved, by attending a local event or organising your own, check out the Rio Connection website (www.rioconnection.org).
And if you want to see what’s been achieved since 1992 because of people like you, watch the Rio Connection animation: Reasons to be Cheerful!”
