A request from Canada

I see that themes at your gathering include community and climate change. I would be grateful to read firsthand accounts of these discussions. I will be watching your YMG group blog with great interest, becauseĀ  Quaker Earthcare Witness have been discussing cutting down their carbon footprint with less travel, and more online discernment. Big questions are how to preserve community and worshipful Quaker process.

You are welcome to join our discussion site QEWnet.ning.com and add comments; your suggestions for the QEWnet earthcare resource list would be most welcome. QEWnet now has members in the US, Canada, UK, Europe, NZ, Australia, India, HK, and some on travelling ministries in South America. There is a growing interchurch and interfaith movement on questions of eco-justice, of which Friends want to be part. See my blog tags “Quaker” and “multifaith”.

As a member of the FWCC planning committee, I also welcome suggestions or advice for the 2009-2010 FWCC world consultations on “Global Change”: climate, eco-justice and related concerns. The FWCC-GC webpage (administered by the London office) will collect links and information about Friends’ statements, groups, study packs, and links relating to global change. Some of the same themes will be heard in the FWCC World Conference for August 14-21, 2012 at Africa Nazarene University, near Nairobi, Kenya, being planned by a separate committee.

On a not unrelated topic, Building a Culture of Peace is a wiki set up by Canadian Yearly Meeting. It shares resources from around the world. You are invited to join and contribute.
