Geese, wonky bridges and a Quaker up a tree

Well I’ve arrived, unpacked and sorted out an internet connection [luckily I know a man with an ethernet cable] so I thought I’d say something about first impressions.

I’ve been to York before but I had forgotten the geography until I started to walk around. I’m in James and the whole registration process was very smooth. I have a second floor room and I wimped out sufficiently to ask a helpful young woman to carry my suitcase up the stairs. I am feeling better but am being careful for a while.

Walking around I have seen a lot of familiar faces and had several fleeting conversations. I decided to go round the lake and found that both bridges are under repair and looking much more delapidated than when I was last here. I had remembered the black swan but forgotten the vast numbers of geese wandering everywhere leaving their marks!

I also encountered a Friend perched in a willow tree quietly sketching – a good start!
